More Info: The winery was founded as a cooperative in 1934, just before the Spanish Civil War, by a group of local winegrowers. It is now a leading producer in the Jumilla region of southeastern Spain. Wine has been made in this area for over 5000 years thanks to its combination of dry, Mediterranean climate and unfertile soils – perfect for growing quality, organic grapes. Jumilla grew in popularity at the end of the 19th Century as the phylloxera plague that was wiping out Bordeaux and other key European regions never reached Jumilla thanks to its poor, dry soils. For this reason, Jumilla has some of Europe’s oldest vines.
